It is been long awaited, but it is finally here – Twitter’s advertising model. Today, Biz Stone wrote in Twitter Blog that soon they will be rolling out what they call “Promoted Tweets”, there way of putting ads in Twitter search. Biz wrote
“You will start to see Tweets promoted by our partner advertisers called out at the top of some Twitter.com search results pages. We strongly believe that Promoted Tweets should be useful to you. We’ll attempt to measure whether the Tweets resonate with users and stop showing Promoted Tweets that don’t resonate”
Promoted tweets will look something like this:
Twitter will launch the 1st phase of Promoted Tweets along with “handful of innovative advertising partners that include Best Buy, Bravo, Red Bull, Sony Pictures, Starbucks, and Virgin America”. The 1st phase will only have Promoted Tweets inside the search and I think Promoted tweets inside twitter streams should be the logical next step in the coming phases.
So, basically promoted Tweets will be 100% organic advertising and twitter will be basically converting the few chosen tweets (from its advertising partner) into ads or what they call as “Promoted Tweets”. Another important point to be noted here is the life of any Promoted Tweet will depend totally on its quality or how well it is resonating with users i.e. if people are interacting with tweets (retweeting, replying etc).
How well Promoted Tweets will gell with users? Well initial analysis of tweets suggests (this might change over time) that not many people are happy with this new feature, but again it is too early to say. Let us wait and watch. What do say? Let us know in comments.
Update – And yes they are live
